Radisson Blu Gets Approval For €60m Expansion; Plans For 'Limited Service' Hotel Near Dame Street

CG Hotels has received planning permission for two expansion projects adjacent to its Radisson Blu hotel at Dublin airport, which will cost in the region of €60 million.

The work, reports The Irish Independent, will see the addition of a six-storey extension to the hotel property, resulting in the addition of 131 new bedrooms, as well as building a brand new seven-storey, 144-bedroom hotel. Upon completion, the Radisson Blu will have a capacity of more than 500 rooms.

CG Hotels acquired the four-star hotel in 2006 but told Central Bank last year that the planned extension for the property had to be put on hold due to "insecurity and uncertainty surrounding the hotel following the sale of our loan to an unregulated entity".

Elsewhere in Dublin, planning permission for a €21 million, 155-bedroom 'compact luxury' hotel on the former home of Andrews Lane Theatre has been applied for by Appalachian Property Holdings. The work will see the construction of a nine-storey hotel with a restaurant and coffee dock, however there will be no restaurant or bar, reports The Irish Times. Appalachian are aiming to open the hotel in spring 2019 with room rates expected to cost €150 per night.

"Its primary target audience comprises of well-informed, contemporary and tech-savvy business and leisure individuals who want style, location and value for money. This is reflected throughout the ‘limited service’ hotel with sophisticated technology assisting the guests from self-service check-in to compact sophisticated bedrooms, which provide guests with the ability to customise their own environment," said the urban design concept document for the application.
