Renowned Restaurants in Dublin and Cork Announce Sudden Closures

Two of the most popular restaurants in the country have announced that they have closed.

In the Dublin suburb of Ranelagh, the Gavin McDonagh-led Brioche restaurant (pictured) suddenly ceased training this week, much to the surprise of its many supporters.

Posting on Instagram, Brioche stated:

'It is with great regret that we announce that our Ranelagh outlet has come to an end. Due to matters beyond the control of our Directors we have ceased trading. • From all of the team we wish to express our heartfelt thanks to all that have supported us over the past number of years. We hope to see you all again in the near future!'

There is no news yet where head chef McDonagh's next port of call will be.

Meanwhile, in Cork, it was revealed yesterday (20 July) that the award-winning Fenn's Quay restaurant had shut its doors, bringing to an abrupt end 20 years in business.

"It’s just a really sad day. It's been a restaurant for 20 years," said chef and manager Kate Lawlor, as reported by the Irish Examiner.

"I have been working there 15 years and running it for nine years. I plied my trade there and it’s been a big part of my life. It's a Cork institution. Some great people and staff have come through the door but it’s just time for someone else with energy and passion to take it on," added Lawlor, who cited  a range of issues for the closure, including pay parking being extended to parts of the city by two hours.

"I am at it for a long time and it’s time for someone else to take it on," said Lawlor.
