New 'Blank List' Restaurant Opens In Belfast
A new "blank list" restaurant has opened in Belfast.
As reported by The Irish News, on arrival at the new venue, which is located on Belfast's Malone Road and called Blank Restaurant, guests will be provided with a "blank list", which is a carefully selected display of ingredients, and will only know what they are being served when dishes are revealed to them.
Blank reportedly comes from the team behind Shed Bistro on Belfast's Ormeau Road, and will reportedly present a five course casual fine dining experience curated using only produce that is farmed and sourced on the island of Ireland.
The hope is reportedly that the commitment to local suppliers will aid the bounce back of some suppliers that were adversely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and encourage a more sustainable culture and supportive way of consuming local food produce.
The Blank team is reportedly headed up by New Zealand native Alex Daley as general manager.
Daley, who is reportedly a trained sommelier with more than 15 years' experience across fine dining and is reportedly passionate about sustainability, will reportedly be joined by head chef Niall Duffy, who reportedly hails from Belfast but reportedly has experience working alongside Patrick Guilbaud, Gordon Ramsay and teams at The Ritz.
Duffy has reportedly worked closely with chef and owner Jonny Taylor to design the culinary elements of the show, while Daley and co-owner Christina Taylor reportedly joined forces to create the wine pairings and hospitality experience.
Blank Co-Owner Statement
Taylor reportedly said, "We dreamt this idea up a number of years ago and have been planning, designing and finessing the concept ever since.
"It really has been a labour of love, so we hope every guest that crosses our door loves it as much as we do and has a really enjoyable experience with us. Come and try for yourself and let us know what you think."
Changing Experience And Current "Blank List"
The Blank experience will reportedly change depending on the availability of various produce.
The restaurants current "blank list" reportedly includes produce from Draynes Farm in Lisburn, Scott's Family Farm in Co. Down, Roaring Water Bay in Cork and Donegal Fisheries, as well as local spirits An Dúlamán Martime Gin and Mourne Dew Distillery's Kilbroney Gin.
