Ryanair to Return to Belfast After 5-Year Absence

Ryanair will fly out Belfast once again, more than five years after the airline pulled out of the city over a runway dispute.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, the airline will set up a new hub in Belfast International Airport, flying to London Gatwick and around six other undetermined locations.

Ryanair pulled its operations from Belfast City Airport in 2010 after it did not get the longer runway it wanted to accommodate more flights to European destinations.

Ryanair is expected to take some of the Aer Lingus slots left vacant by IAG after the acquisition of Aer Lingus last year, which Ryanair has been trying to acquire since.

Speaking about the slots in Belfast International Airport before, a Ryanair spokesman said: "As we have stated, should we secure workable Belfast-Gatwick slots, then we will launch a high frequency service, but we have had no confirmation to date."
