Taoiseach Announces Funding For National Surf Centre

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has announced funding of just over €1 million from Fáilte Ireland’s Large Capital Grants Scheme 2016-2022 to Sligo County Council for the development of a new state of the art National Surf Centre in Strandhill.

The project aims to provide a high quality National Surfing Centre of Excellence which will provide local surf schools, individuals and the local surf club with a safe and professional service. The project will also seek to attract new visitors both domestic and overseas to Sligo, and will act as a focal point for surfing and other outdoor activities on the Wild Atlantic Way.

Fit-For-Purpose

The project will be situated at the "Four Winds" site on Strandhill promenade and the 500 square metre centre will provide a modern fit-for-purpose centre with changing, showering and toilet facilities, board and locker storage, a gym, an off-beach training facility and a multi-function meeting room.

The centre will also serve as an information hub with information on the wide range of visitor experiences in the region.
