VFI Calls For Increase In Earnings Limit For Students

The Vintners' Federation of Ireland (VFI) has appealed to the Department of Education to raise the earnings limit for students so that they can work more hours without losing their third-level grand.

The appeal comes following complaints from publicans that students do not want to work additional hours in pubs in case they lost their grants. According to VFI spokesman Brian Foley, the current earnings limit for students is €4,500 per year.

"An Opportunity To Send A Positive Message"

The Sunday Business Post quotes Foley as saying, "There is an opportunity to send a positive message to students, their parents and employers by increasing this cap. It will not entail any increased costs for the exchequer."
