Casella Family Brands Buys Brand’s Laira from McWilliam’s

Australian drinks giant Casella Family Brands has bought Brand’s Laira from McWilliam’s Wine Group, and in the process added several upmarket wine brands to its increasingly premium product range, thedrinksbusiness.com reports.

Casella has stated it intends to increase the number of cases of Brand’s Laira wines sold per annum to 250,000 over the next ten years. At present, the figure stands at 70,000.

John Casella, the company’s managing director, said, “The acquisition perfectly complements our premium range of wines, extending our portfolio to include a reputable brand that represents the regional excellence of the Coonawarra.”

“I believe we are well positioned to build on the investment McWilliam’s Wines has made in Brand’s Laira in the domestic and international markets, in particular by showcasing the excellent Cabernet Sauvignon wines for which the region and the brand are famous,” he added.

The takeover follows Casella’s acquisition of a controlling share of Peter Lehmann wines last year.
