Keelings Harvest First Crop Of Irish Blackberries

Keelings, the 100-per-cent Irish family-owned company, have just harvested their first crop of Irish blackberries for the year. Blackberries are naturally low in fat, sugar and calories and are high in essential vitamins.

Keeling’s head blackberry grower, Donal Counihan forecasts approximately 30,000 tonnes of Irish blackberries will be harvested on Keelings farm from now until the end October. Keelings Irish Blackberries are good for your health, good for your skin and are a diverse cooking ingredient.

Blackberries are a great source of vitamin A & C, which help our immune system, skin and eyes; folate, which is important for pregnant women; potassium, which prevents high blood pressure; and fibre, which helps our digestive system. Blackberries’ rich, dark blue colour is provided by disease fighting phytochemicals, which act as antioxidants and can help reduce the risk of certain cancers and heart disease.

Blackberries are also perfect in salads and smoothies as a refreshing summer treat.
