Internal candidate Stephen Kavanagh will take over as the new CEO of Aer Lingus from 1 March.
He will take over as new boss as Aer Lingus is the subject of a 1.4 billion takeover from British Airways parent company IAG.
Kavanagh, who has been with the airline since 1988, will replace incumbent CEO Christoph Mueller who is stepping down to become chief executive at Malaysia Airlines.
In his 26 years with Aer Lingus Kavanagh has worked in a number of roles in operational and commercial departments. Most recently he worked as chief strategy and planning officer.
