Alicante Service A Boost For Shannon Region

A new Ryanair service to Alicante from Shannon airport is a boost the region as it bids to attract some of the 40,000 holidaymakers flying out of Dublin and Cork back to their local airport, according to the Shannon Airport Authority.

Ryanair will operate the Alicante service with twice weekly flights, on Wednesdays and Fridays, commencing on June 5th and running through to September 27th. The last time this service was offered was in 2010.

Welcoming the news, Shannon Airport Authority Chairman Rose Hynes said, “This Ryanair announcement is really good news for thousands of holiday makers from this region as Alicante is one of the most popular sun destinations operated from this airport. Thankfully, these people now have the pleasure and convenience again of flying from Shannon and we expect it will be a hugely successful route."

Helen Downes, chief executive of Shannon Chamber, said that the lack of a direct service from Shannon in recent years had added time and expense to families' holiday costs. "Bringing this business back into Shannon is great for the airport and for the region,” said Downes.
