Athlone Students Win Hospitality Award

A group of five students from Athlone Institute of Technology have been selected of the winners of the Irish Hospitality Institute Business Management Game 2015.

The team, made up of two men and three women representing Athlone scored top marks in the competition which saw them devise a strategy for a hospitality business. They beat out eight other teams representing young hospitality managers of the future. The teams came from colleges based all over Ireland.

They impressed the judging panel, made up of senior members from the hospitality industry, with their ability to run the strategy while maintaining a budget and adapting to other challenges which reflected the specific concerns facing the industry today.

The panel was made up of chairman Martin Mangan, General Manager of The Conrad Hotel, Dublin 2, along with Sean Curtis, Operations Sport & Leisure, AVIVA Stadium Events and Liz Kennedy Burke, Kennedy Burke & Associates.

The game was run with help from sponsors Compass Group Ireland at AVIVA Stadium/Meetings & Events, Febvre & Co, Irish Hotels Federation, HOTS and Forás na Gaeilge.

This year was the 30th year of the competition, and the winners from the original year were present to mark the occasion. The winning team will eat a specifically designed lunch at Michelin-star restaurant Chapter One, Dublin for their prize.
