Cavan Gets Behind Cola Comeback

Cavan Cola, which at the height of its popularity out-sold Coca-cola in its home county, has been tipped for a comeback.

The Anglo-Celt reports the cola brand, famous for its Guinness-style head, was as synonymous with Cavan products as boxty or Bailey's at its peak in the 1970s and 80s.

Started by family-run business Cavan Mineral Water Ltd in 1958, the product was sold in its distinctive 250ml glass bottle until the early 2000s when it was gradually removed from distribution by Finches who purchased the company in 1995.

Speaking to Hospitality Ireland, Donal Keogan, owner of the renowned Imperial Bar on Bridge Street, Cavan Town, said that the pub "would absolutely stock Cavan Cola" if it was returned.

The publication have floated the idea of a 'bring back Cavan Cola' campaign with an eye to unveiling it at the Taste of Cavan festival later in the year.
