About 200 Cork businesses are campaigning to ensure the former Beamish and Crawford site will be converted into an event centre. The redevelopment of the site will cost a total of €150 million.
City shops and restaurant such as Casey's Furniture and the Cornstore restaurant fully support the new project.
Three separate event centers have been granted planning permission and consultants Pricewaterhouse Cooper are assessing the rival bids before making a recommendation to Cork City Council.
Heineken and BAM support the Brewery Quarter bid and aim to develop a 6,000-capacity events centre on South Main Street as a part of its €150 million Brewery Quarter regeneration scheme.
