Dublin Airport Reports Strong January Figures

Dublin Airport handled around 1.5 million passengers in January this year, an increase of 14 per cent on the number of passengers for January 2014.

The Airport saw growth across all key destinations according to the latest figures released by the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA).

According to the Irish Times, the bulk of passengers were travelling to or from continental Europe. This amounted to 669,000 passengers, an increase of 18 per cent on the same month last year.

Around 595,000 passengers travelled to or from the UK, which is an increase of 10 per cent. Travellers to and from North America reached almost 102,000 passengers, an increase of 5 per cent.

International traffic, mainly people travelling to or from the Middle East and North Africa, increased the most - jumping 39 per cent to 69,000 passengers.

Dublin Airport also fared better than the average European airport according to figures released by Airports Council International. Passengers using Dublin Airport increased by 8 per cent to 21.7 million whereas the average European airport saw increases of 4.9 per cent.
