Fáilte Ireland Launches New €65M Tourism Initiative

Fáilte Ireland has launched a new €65 million Capital Investment Scheme with the aim of developing new tourism projects and boosting current tourism experiences.

It is hoped the initiative will increase the number of overseas visitors, create more jobs throughout the country and promote the tourism brands The Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland's Ancient East and Dublin: A Breath of Fresh Air.

The funding is part of Fáilte Ireland's overall capital fund, which is valued at €125 million over the next 7 years. This new scheme will run till 2020 and will be open to public, private and voluntary sectors. Grants in excess of €200,000 and up to €5 million will be made available.

Fáilte Ireland hopes by making the scheme innovation-friendly and having an outcome-led approach that it will reach its desired goals before 2020.

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan said: “This capital investment will allow us to support high impact projects around the country and will underpin our overall strategy for sustained tourism growth which benefits all the regions”.

Fáilte Ireland chief executive Shaun Quinn added: “This support is central to the future development of the tourism sector. If we are to compete internationally as a compelling destination, we need to think big.”
