Going Green: Several Monuments to be Lit Up on Patrick's Day

The Colosseum in Rome, Christ the Redeemer and the London Eye are just some of the landmarks that will be illuminated in green on St. Patrick' Day this year.

The Global Greening is part of Tourism Ireland's promotional campaign for 2015 to increase awareness of Irish tourism abroad. Dozens of buildings, landmarks and monuments will be lit up with a green hue to celebrate on march 17th.

Last year 120 spots were signed up for the event, this year already 60 have been announced, with many more set to follow. Plans for the Global Greening were unveiled today by Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Paschal Donohoe and Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland.

The aim of the campaign is to get pictures of the landmarks shared on social media, with some spots organising 'self stations' for the event.

Other notable landmarks that will be lit up are:

Grand Ole Opry, Nashville Niagara Falls (US and Canada) Sacré-Cœur Basilica, Paris Allianz Arena, Munich Leaning Tower of Pisa Jumeirah Etihad Towers hotel, Abu Dhabi
