Ireland's Ancient East Opens for Business As Website Launched

Fáilte Ireland has launched a new "mobile-first" website for Ireland's Ancient East as it ramps up marketing for the new touring region.

The new campaign showcases 5,000 years of Irish history within the east and south regions and will be promoted across print and digital media as well as a 60 second television commercial in June.

The new website, www.irelandsancienteast.com, which has 400 pieces of content, will allow tourists to experience some of Ireland's Ancient East classic stories and discover it's hidden gems. Since the website will be easily accessible on a phone, it's hoped that it will greatly enhance visitors holiday experience.

Fáilte Ireland's latest initiative for promoting the Ancient East has seen €2.3 million capital investment allocated to 25 projects, four of which are opening to the public soon. Visitors will get to experience the Hook Lighthouse, Lullymore Heritage and Discovery Park, Athlone Castle and the Titanic Experience.

Ireland's Ancient East brand will get another €18 million invested into it by the end of 2016, which will include training, branded signage and €550,000 to promote national and regional events.

Michael Cawley, the Chairman of Fáilte Ireland emphasised the brands importance, stating: "In the south and east of the country, we are presented with a particular tourism challenge – that of increasing the length of time visitors stay in the region and effectively transforming the region from a ‘transit zone’ to a ‘touring zone’. ‘Ireland’s Ancient East’, will allow us to market and leverage the unique depth and diversity of the region’s heritage assets".
