Irish Ferries Operator Sells Jonathan Swift Ship For €15.5m

By Dave Simpson

Irish Continental Group, operator of Irish Ferries, has agreed to the sale of its high speed Jonathan Swift vessel to Balearia Eurolineas Maritimas for €15.5 million.

According to The Irish Independent, the vessel is to be delivered by the end of April 2018 and will be replaced by another high speed craft called the Westpac Express, which is currently being refurbished to meet Irish Ferries passenger standards following a 20 month period on external charter.

The Jonathan Swift has operated on Irish Ferries' Dublin to Holyhead route since its delivery in 1999 and cost ICG €38.8 million to commission. Its disposal is expected to generate a book profit of around €14 million for the group.
