The number of passengers passing through Shannon airport has risen by 15 per cent for the first six months of this year.
The numbers rose to 653,894 this year, up from 568,133 for the same period in 2013.
The major increase has been with regard to Europe, with passengers travelling to and from Europe up 54 per cent. This is largely due to an increase in flights to and from European destinations, with 16 new routes being added in the first six months of the year. Nine of these routes were launched by Ryanair.
The improvements didn't stop with Europe, with transatlantic passengers growing by 11 per cent and passengers to and from the UK growing by 5 per cent.
Shannon Airport are understandably happy with the increases, with the chief commercial officer Andrew Murphy saying, "The significant increases in services are very timely this year with the launch of the Wild Atlantic Way." He added, "We have made huge strides this year in meeting the demand for services to and from Shannon."
