Record Number Of Visitors To EU In 2014

2014 saw one of the best years for tourism in the EU as 2.7 billion nights were spent by tourists in accommodation in the 28 member states. This represents a rise of 1.7 per cent from 2013.

The figures, released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the EU, showed France to be the number one visited country in the EU with 403 million nights spent, down 1.2 per cent from 2013.

Spain came in a close second with 401 million, up 3.1 per cent. Italy and Germany followed with 370 million and 366 million, respectively. Spain and Italy had the most non-residential tourists.

Baltic nation Latvia, up 11 per cent, saw the biggest increase, with Belgium, Portugal and Greece also showing increases.
