Shannon Airport Expects Busiest August Bank Holiday In Five Years

Shannon Airport is expecting to welcome 48,000 passengers throughout the August Bank Holiday.

This is a 25% increase in passenger traffic on the same period last year, and a nine per cent rise on figures over the August Bank Holiday in 2019.

Highest Passenger Traffic

During the first six months of this year, Shannon airport recorded its highest passenger traffic figures in over a decade, which it said signified a strong rebound in overseas travel.

This summer, Shannon Airport is serving 33 destinations to 11 countries across the UK, USA, and Europe.

City Breaks

“We are seeing passengers flying out to popular summer destinations like Mallorca, Lanzarote, Porto, Malta and Naples to name a few," Mary Considine, CEO of The Shannon Airport Group.

"UK City breaks are also in demand such as Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester and Edinburgh, while transatlantic travel to New York, Newark, Boston and our latest destination Chicago is strong both outbound and inbound."

Ireland's Best Airport

Last month, Shannon Airport was ranked as Ireland's best airport brand by RED C Brand Reaction Index (BRI) Ireland 2023.

The index, which has just been released, shows Shannon Airport placed in the top 100 emotionally connected brands at number 54 and is the highest-ranking airport brand in Ireland.

RED C conducted the BRI Test among the 170 brands across 22 sectors, to see which brands have the highest connection with consumers.

'Meaningful connections'

"It is fantastic to see we are ranked as the top airport brand in the country, and this really acknowledges the work across all our departments here in the airport," said Tim Ryan, head of brand and marketing at Shannon Airport operator The Shannon Airport Group.

"It is because of this, that people associate such positive emotions and meaningful connections with Shannon Airport."
