Tourism Ireland Targets Two Million Visitors To Northern Ireland

Tourism Ireland has released details on marketing plans to promote Northern Ireland. The aim is to entice over two million tourists to Northern Ireland per year by 2016. If targets are met, tourists to Northern Ireland will rise by over 36% from 2014-2016.

Northern Ireland has seen significantly more visitors in the last two years due to HBO's fantasy series Game of Thrones. Most of the filming of the show is along the Causeway coast and Glens, acting as the backdrop for the fictional land of Winterfell. Hundreds of fans have made their way to the north in order to visit the locations.

'In order to attract new and repeat visitors, Tourism Ireland will be seeking to capitalize on the huge popularity of Game of Thrones.' Arlene Foster, Enterprise Minister at Tourism Ireland told the BBC.
