Virgin Launches Belfast Route

Virgin Atlantic has launched a route from Belfast to the US which will begin in the summer of 2015.

There will be a total of eight direct services between Belfast International Airport and Orlando International Airport, Florida next June and July, beginning on June 25. It is the first time that Richard Branson's airline will fly from the North.

The airline plans to use Boeing 747's on the route, which will offer 3,600 passengers the opportunity to fly to Orlando next summer. The service will form part of its joint venture with Delta Air Lines which will enable passengers to use Delta's services to connect through Orlando for onward journeys to other US destinations.

The route could provide some competition for Aer Lingus which operates a service from Dublin to Orlando.

There is an existing Virgin service between Glasgow and Orlando which has continued to increase in popularity since its launch seven years ago and Belfast Airport is hoping that their new route will be as popular. Virgin also announced that it is further expanding its services by offering a flight from Glasgow to Las Vegas beginning next September.
