American billionaire Donald Trump is reportedly one of the leading bidders in the race to buy Doonbeg golf resort, in Co Clare.
The business magnate investor, who's personal fortune is estimated to be worth over $3.5 billion, gained international fame through his involvement in hit TV show The Apprentice.
Reports in today's Irish Examiner and Clare People say that Trump is close to sealing a deal worth in the region of €15 million to buy the Lodge at Doonbeg and Doonbeg Golf Club from investment fund King Street.
Receivers were appointed to the five-star resort at the beginning of January, and it quickly gained a lot of interest.
Trump, who recently developed a much-heralded links course in Aberdeen, has lost a legal action against a major experimental windfarm being built close to the course. Making clear he was expecting to appeal, Trump alleged there had been clear and illegal bias by the Scottish government in its decision.
