US Billionaire Considers Bid For Mount Juliet Resort

Billionaire US businessman John Malone is reportedly considering making a bid to buy Kilkenny's Mount Juliet hotel and country club resort.

A report in today's Irish Times states that the luxurious hotel, which is home to Michelin-star restaurant the Lady Helen, recently received notice of strong interest from the US's largest landowner, John Malone.

Malone has over the past number of years been involved in acquiring a number of Irish assets, including the Humewod Castle in Wicklow and the Hilton Hotel in Charlemont Place.

Malone serves on the Boards of Directors for the Bank of New York Mellon, the Cato Institute, and Expedia.com. Additionally, Malone is Chairman Emeritus of the Board for Cable Television Laboratories, Inc. and Chairman of Liberty Global, Inc., and the DirecTV Group.

Mount Juliet is set on 600 hectares and is best-known for its golf course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, which has previously hosted the European Tour’s Irish Open.
