JD Wetherspoon To Convert Cork Cafe Into Bar

UK pub chain JD Wetherspoon looks to to purchase the Newport Cafe located in Paul Street Plaza, Cork. Wetherspoon will spend €1.5 million to transform the cafe into a bar. The Newport Cafe will be Wetherspoon's second location in the Republic of Ireland, after it bought Tonic Bar in Blackrock, Dublin.

The site will need both licensing and planning permission. The firm hope to open the new pub by April 2014.

"We're looking at other sites throughout the Republic of Ireland and hopefully they will come to fruition in the near future," Wetherspoon founder and chairman, Tim Martin, told www.drinksindustry.ie
