Europe's First Underwater Restaurant To Be Built In Norway

Norway is set to be the site of Europe's first ever underwater restaurant in 2019, with a concrete structure featuring a 36-foot panoramic window planned to be built for the endeavour in Lindesnes.

The venue's menu will be seafood-focussed and presided over by head chef Nicolai Ellitsgaard, while the restaurant itself will be called Under. It is being designed by Norwegian architectural firm Snøhetta and is the company's first underwater development.

"Very dramatic"

Planned to be spread over three levels, the venue will be able to accommodate up to 100 people and will include a champagne bar to mark the transition between the shoreline and the ocean.

Commenting on the project, lead architect Rune Grasdal said, "One of the benefits of this building is how it links nature and land, and how you can come safe from the land and in a very dramatic way go down through this concrete tube to the nature at sea level, and experience what normally is not experienced."
