'Quirky' Heron & Grey Joins Michelin Star List
The Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2017 was published today 3 October, revealing 20 new Michelin stars with Heron & Grey in Blackrock Market being the only new Irish restaurant to win a star.
The fine-dining restaurant, described by the guide as "quirky, innovative and original", "reinvents itself on a bi-weekly basis" and is run by Andrew Heron and Damien Grey. It can only seat 18-people and divides its dining room into two, serving customers at 730pm and 830pm due to "the constraints in the size of our little kitchen".
Its latest menu consisted of a 5-course €48 tasting menu where it served dishes such as 'tuna-rice-wasabi', 'chervil root-pear-walnut' and 'pigeon-hazelnut-liver' to complement a strong wine list.
No Irish restaurants lost a star this year, with Galway's Aniar and Loam, Dublin's The Greenhouse, Chapter One and l'Ecrivain, House in Ardmore, Campagne and Lady Helen in Kilkenny, Belfast's Eipic and Ox all retaining their stars, as did two Michelin-starred Patrick Guilbaud's.
Bib Gourmands, awarded "for good value, good quality cooking", were given to Delahunt, Etto, Pichet, The Pig's Ear and Pigeon House in Dublin. Other Bib winners included 1826 in Adare, Co Limerick, The Courthouse in Co Monaghan, Cafe Hans in Co Tipperary, Sha-Roe Bistro in Co Carlow, Chart House, in Dingle, Co Kerry, Aldridge Lodge in Co Wexford, The Copper Hen in Co Waterford, Giovannelli in Co Kerry, Bastion and Fishy Fishy in Co Cork, and Clare's Wild Honey Inn, reports the Irish Independent.
