The number of whiskey distilleries operating in Ireland increased by 10 to 31 in 2019, which is the highest number of operational Irish distilleries on record since 1900.

A "Momentous Decade"

The Irish Independent quotes head of Drinks Ireland and the Irish Whiskey Association William Lavelle as saying that Irish whiskey had a "momentous decade".

Lavelle also stated, "We are seeing new distilleries open right across the island of Ireland, bringing the tradition and craft of distilling back to cities, towns and villages which once were proud centres of distilling and are set to be again."
