AIPCO Calls For Government Supports For Business Tourism Sector

The Association of Irish Professional Conference Organisers (AIPCO) has called on the government to introduce a grant scheme and VAT exemption for businesses involved in the business tourism sector.

In addition to a "resilience and hardship" grant and a VAT exemption, AIPCO is seeking an extension of the wage subsidy scheme for the business tourism sector until May of 2021; the creation of clear standard operating procedure guidelines for how conferences can take place safely; and a reduction of social distancing from two metres to one metre to "ensure financial viability" for conferences.

"Consider A More Long-Term Approach"

The Irish Independent quotes AIPCO chairman Ronan Flood as saying, "We are asking the government to consider a more long-term approach, support conference organisers during the immediate crisis and help to properly showcase Ireland in a post-COVID world."
