March 14 saw French airline Air Tahiti Nui operate the longest ever passenger flight by distance, with the service running from Papeete in Tahiti to Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris and covering 9,765 miles.
The flight was a consequence of the US's COVID-19 travel restrictions, which made the service's usual stopover at LAX in Los Angeles untenable.
"An Exceptional Basis"
An Air Tahiti Nui spokesperson told CNN Travel, "This flight was operated on an exceptional basis and within the constraints imposed by the American authorities in the face of the Covid-19 epidemic."
The flight lasted just under 16 hours.
