Fáilte Ireland Invests €640k In New Norman Heritage Park

Minister of state for the OPW and flood relief Kevin Moran has welcomed Fáilte Ireland funding of €640,000 for a new visitor attraction in Granard, Co. Longford, called Norman Heritage Park.

"Huge Asset"

Moran said that the new attraction will be a "huge asset for Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands" as it will be "Ireland's only authentically recreated Norman village that brings the story of Ireland under the Normans to life".

The village will use live acting, displays, activities, and augmented and virtual reality to show visitors how people lived, worked and played 800 years ago.

Key Features

Key features of the attraction will include a fully accessible recreated Norman ship, a "treasure tunnel", and buildings ranging from a banqueting hall to a typical family home.

Fáilte Ireland's €640,000 investment in the project has come from the national tourism development authority's Grants Scheme for Large Tourism Projects 2016-2020.
