A statement published on infrastructure-ni.gov.uk said, "A £430k upgrade scheme to improve the shared footway and cycleway around the Craigavon Lakes will commence on Monday 20 September 2021.
"Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon said, 'This significant investment to upgrade 5km of footway and cycleway around the Craigavon Lakes will greatly improve the surface quality and will include widening as well as improved drainage and signage. This will benefit all who use this leisure facility for walking, wheeling and cycling. I would like to thank the users of this facility in advance for their cooperation while these works are completed.'"
The statement published on infrastructure-ni.gov.uk continued, "The improvement work will involve the resurfacing and widening of 5km of existing shared footway and cycleway and include associated drainage and signage. The work will commence on Monday 20 September 2021 and will take 8 weeks to complete with an estimated completion date of Friday 12 November.
"It is expected the works will take place on weekdays and it will be necessary to close sections of the path whilst works are ongoing for the safety of workers and path users. Alternative routes for path users will be signed whilst the closures are in place.
"The Department has carefully planned these works in order to minimise inconvenience to the public. The Department has been liaising closely with Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council to facilitate the upgrade to the route and to arrange access to the various sections of the route to expedite the works and to minimise any disruption that may be caused. Users are advised to adhere to signage and take extra care when in the vicinity of the works.
"When complete the upgraded route will provide an improved facility in the Craigavon area to encourage more walking, wheeling and cycling at this popular location. The Department apologises in advance for any inconvenience that may be associated with the works.
"Substantial completion of the work by 12 November is dependent on favourable weather conditions. The Department will keep the public informed of any change. All work will be carried out in line with current public health and health and safety advice, with safe systems of work in place for staff and contractors."
