Galway Showcased In Italy

Galway 2020 was showcased at an event organised in conjunction with the Embassy of Ireland at the EU Commission building in Rome on Friday October 25.

Tourism Ireland supported the event as part of its programme of promotions to highlight the island of Ireland to its "culturally curious" audience in Italy. Leading Italian travel, lifestyle and culture journalists, as well as cultural attachés to EU member states, attended.

Tourism Ireland took the opportunity to remind guests that Galway was named the fourth best city in the world to visit in 2020 last week by Lonely Planet. Tourism Ireland's message is that Galway 2020 will offer Italian holidaymakers a unique cultural and artistic experience.

Highlighting Galway "As European Capital of Culture Next Year"

Niamh Kinsella, Tourism Ireland's manager Italy, commented, "We're delighted to promote Galway 2020 here in Italy and to highlight the city as European Capital of Culture next year. [The] news that Galway has been named the number four city in the world in Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2020 is a truly well-deserved accolade, which provides Tourism Ireland with a great hook to continue to promote Galway and Ireland as a 'must visit' destination. Our message for our 'culturally curious' audience here in Italy, and elsewhere around the world, is that the island of Ireland offers world-class festivals and cultural experiences."
