Appeals have been lodged by People Before Profit TD Bríd Smith and her party colleague, Councillor Tina McVeigh, as well as by Louise Leonard, against the granting of planning permission for a new eight-storey hotel at Vicar Street in Dublin.
Favouring Residential Developments
The Smith-McVeigh appeal, which is supported by approximately 120 people, asserts that planning permission should be not be approved for any proposed developments that do not positively contribute to the stock of residential housing.
According to The Irish Examiner, the Smith-McVeigh appeal states, "This is essential if we are to solve the housing crisis on the one hand and retain the community, residential and urban neighbourhood character of the inner city of Dublin."
A decision on the appeal is currently scheduled to be delivered in June, however, it is possible that it will be delayed due to a backlog in cases at the appeals board.
