Hayes Hotel Up For Auction

Hayes Hotel in Thurles, Co. Tipperary is one of the many properties available at the Allsop auction in the RDS today.

Hayes Hotel is recognised as the place where the GAA was founded in 1884, after Michael Cusack held a meeting in the hotel to discuss how Irish pastimes could be preserved.

The property entered receivership in April 2013 but has remained open. There have been several calls for the GAA to purchase and preserve the hotel, including those from former GAA president and MEP Sean Kelly.

The hotel, which has a reserve of between €450,000 and €500,000 - €300,000 less than the price the estate agents were originally quoting - has a reception, lounge bar, coffee dock, two nightclubs and 30 bedrooms.
