Hotel Prices Take a Big Leap For Galway Races

Room rates will see a sharp in Galway during the racing season as prices are set to peak at €221.

According to data collected by hotel search site trivago, the average hotel price during the Galway Races has risen by 16 per cent this month and on 30 July, which is ladies' day at the festival, the average price will rise to €221.

During the weeklong event prices will be at an average of €171 which represents a 10 per cent increase on the same period in 2014. The rate for a hotel during the racing week is 50 per cent higher than the preceding week.

David Lintott of trivago said: “Though it is not unusual for hotel prices to rise sharply during sporting events, the price rises in Galway during the Galway Races are extreme, peaking at €221 for Ladies’ Day – an average rarely seen in Ireland and up 15% on Ladies’ Day in 2014."

Across the country, hotel prices are up by an average of 15 per cent compared to last year, two per cent more than the average rise over Europe.
