Lough Erne Resort Hosts Fundraiser For Action Mental Health

A charity open golf competition hosted by Lough Erne Resort has raised approximately £3,250 for Action Mental Health.

140 golfers from all over Ireland took part in the competitions held on The Faldo Course, with prizes for both the men's and women's categories.

More than £5,000 worth of prizes were up for grabs across the competitions with support from more than 40 local businesses. The prizes included hotel stays, dining experiences, beauty vouchers, and experience tours from the neighbouring Boatyard Distillery.

Marion Little, chair of the Lough Erne Resort Charity Committee, said, "We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone that took part in and attended the charity golf event and also to those businesses that generously provided prizes for the golf competitions and raffle.

"It's always a pleasure to work with the Action Mental Health team and help them any way we can in raising funds for the crucial services they provide to the people of Northern Ireland and in particular Fermanagh. We look forward to working with them again very soon."

The winner of the men's section competition was William Neary with 39 points (bb9), who was closely followed by Tony Hughes in second place (bb6) also with 39 points, pushing Ted Magowan into third place with another 39 points. The winner of the women’s section competition was Fidelma Lipsitt with 45 points who was closely followed by Gillian Wilson with 35 points in the runner-up position.

Overall, there were 14 fantastic prizes available for golfers across the day, with numerous podium finishing positions along with novelty prizes including the longest drive which was won by Tyler Neary and ‘closest to the pin’ which was won by Mark McConkey.

Jonathan Smyth, Action Mental Health head of communications and fundraising, said, "We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Lough Erne Resort for generously hosting this charity golf event. The impeccable course and exceptional staff created a truly enjoyable and memorable experience for everyone that attended.

"The funds raised from the event will allow us to continue our work of supporting those with mental ill health within the Fermanagh region, so we are very grateful for the resort’s donation and look forward to working with them again in the future."

Barry McCauley, golf operations manager at Lough Erne Resort, added, "We are delighted with the high number of entrants who came out to support this charity golf day and as always are very grateful to the golfers who have contributed to this fantastic cause in Action Mental Health. The Golf Course is in fantastic order, even throughout the adverse weather conditions, which is a credit to the green staff, as the golf experience at Lough Erne is always a memorable one for members and visitors alike."

Additional Information

Lough Erne Resort is set on a 600-acre peninsula with views of the Fermanagh Lakelands and has two golf courses. The Faldo Course is a top 100 course (UK & Ireland) designed by the six-time major winner Sir Nick Faldo, and the Castle Hume Course has been host to 10 Ulster PGA Championships.
