Malton In Killarney To Revert Back To The Great Southern Hotel

The CEO of the Hayfield Family Collection has confirmed that the Malton in Killarney, Co. Kerry, is to be re-branded and its original name, the Great Southern, restored.

Ettienne van Vrede, who is part of the Scally Family that also owns the five-star Hayfield Manor Hotel in Cork, winner of 'Best City Hotel' at last year's National Hospitality Awards, said that the decision to revert back to its former name is chiefly due to a lot of people still calling the hotel the Great Southern.

"I have this thing that once you are explaining you are losing, so that is one of the main reasons we are going back to the roots of the Great Southern," said van Vrede, as reported by the Irish Independent.

"We did some market research and we found that the name change would be a positive thing," he added, confirming that the hotel will close for a period in January and re-open as the new Great Southern Killarney.
