Michael Smurfit Expresses Sadness Over K Club Sale

Following last week’s news that Co. Kildare’s five-star K Club resort had hit the market for €80 million, owner Michael Smurfit has expressed sadness over the sale.

The Business Post reports that Smurfit said, “I will be very sad to see the K Club sold or part of it sold. I have had very many happy times there with my family and friends. It has been a big part of my life, but I am spending more time overseas these days.

“I have only been back in Ireland for six days this year, but I hope to be back in August.”

Smurfit, who turns 82 in August, added, “We have decided to this because of my advancing years.”

He continued, “[The K Club] cost €200 million to build and has huge potential for the right partners.”
