Only One World Region Showed Increase In Overall Hotel Pipeline Activity At End Of Q3, Says STR

According to a statement published on the website of hotel industry market data company STR, the Middle East and Africa was the only world region that showed an increase in overall in hotel pipeline activity at the end of the third quarter, according to September 2022 data from STR.

Europe

According to the statement published on STR.com, in September of this year (percentage changes are in comparison with September of last year) there were 197,884 rooms in construction in Europe (-14.1%), with 144,277 rooms in final planning (-16.1%), 162,896 rooms in planning (+9.7%) and 505,057 rooms in total under contract (-8.3%), and Germany (38,676) and the UK (29,471) lead Europe in total rooms in construction.

Asia Pacific

According to the statement published on STR.com, in September of this year there were 485,250 rooms in construction in the Asia Pacific region (+1.5%), with 131,427 rooms in final planning (-26.3%), 287,572 rooms in planning (-0.2%) and 904,249 rooms in total under contract (-4.3%), and, among countries in the region, China has the most rooms in construction (311,859), followed by Vietnam (28,692).

Middle East And Africa

According to the statement published on STR.com, in September of this year there were 130,956 rooms in construction in the Middle East and Africa (-3.2%), with 38,147 rooms in final planning (-5.9%), 74,510 rooms in planning (+18.9%) and 243,613 rooms in total under contract (+2.2%), and most of the region's pipeline activity is focussed in the Middle East, with Saudi Arabia (39,070) and United Arab Emirates (32,373) leading in construction activity.

Americas

According to the statement published on STR.com, in September of this year there were 207,585 rooms in construction in the Americas, (-9.2%), with 203,069 rooms in final planning (-17.9%), 329,789 rooms (+9.4%) in planning and 740,443 rooms in total under contract (-4.8%), and the US holds the majority of rooms in construction in the region, with Mexico (14,077) and Canada (7,126) having the highest number of rooms in construction in the region after the US.
