Revenue Climbs, Profits Down at Merrion Hotel

The renowned five-star Merrion Hotel posted profits of €1.45 million in the 12 months to the end of October, an 11 per cent decrease from the previous year.

Despite the decrease, revenues increased by five per cent from €16.8 million to €17.64 million, as reported in the Irish Independent. The hotel continued to have successful years during the recession despite its high rates, recording pre-tax profits of €1.63m in 2013, €1.68m in 2012 and €1.598m in 2011.

The Merrion, which also houses the two Michelin star Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud, earned €126,923 in revenue per room. The hotel comprises 123 bedrooms and 19 suites. I began expanding its facilities in January this year, including a new spa and restaurant.

The multi-award winning hotel has hosted figures such as Barack Obama, a number of celebrities as well as Troika members. It was recently named TripAdvisor's Best Family Hotel in Europe.
