The Competition Commission has approved Supermac's founder Pat McDonagh (pictured) purchase of the Killeshin Hotel in Portlaoise, Co Laois.

Atlantic Troy Limited has purchased the property, a company owned by McDonagh that also owns and operates the Castletroy Park Hotel in County Limerick, the Charleville Park Hotel in County Cork and the Loughrea Hotel and Spa in County Galway.

The four-star Killeshin Hotel comprises 91 bedrooms, 15 executive suites, a restaurant, bar and lounge, a leisure club, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and gym facilities.

According to businessandleadership.com, McDonagh will invest €500,000 in upgrading the hotel and retain the 98 staff currently employed there. The investment, McDonagh said, may increase to €1 million as the project progresses.
