Supermac's Founder To Invest €9m In Limerick City; Castletroy Park Hotel To Be Refurbished

Despite facing a trademark battle with McDonald's, Pat McDonagh, the founder of Supermac's and owner of Limerick's Castletroy Park Hotel, is to invest over €9 million in the city which will see 30 bedrooms added to the four-star hotel.

The investment will include the complete refurbishment of the hotel's existing rooms and leisure facilities as well as a new Supermac's restaurant on Ballysimon Road, with work on the latter "to start in the next two months" reports Limerickleader.ie. The existing Supermac's in Singland will be expanded and the restaurants located on O'Connell Street and Ennis Road also refurbished.

"It is time for all of us, as players in this city, to decide to move now to build a great city. Here in the Castletroy Park, I’m delighted this morning to reaffirm our commitment to this city. I’m especially happy to announce our decision to embark on an expansion of the hotel,” said McDonagh.

Minister Michael Noonan commented at McDonagh's investment announcement that attractions such as King John’s Castle and the proposed international rugby centre on O’Connell Street will help grow Limerick's tourism potential.
