Two Regions Showed Year-On-Year Increase In Hotel Pipeline Activity At End Of First Quarter, Says STR

According to a statement published on the website of hotel industry market data company STR, two of the four world regions, the Americas and Asia Pacific, showed a year-over-year increase in hotel pipeline activity at the end of the first quarter, according to March 2022 data from STR.

Europe

According to the statement published on STR.com, in March of this year (percentage changes are in comparison with March of last year) there were 226,597 rooms in construction in Europe (-12.2%), with 158,057 rooms in final planning (-12.7%), 164,690 rooms in planning (+5.8%) and 549,344 rooms in total under contract (-7.7%), and Germany (42,712) and the UK (31,796) lead Europe in total rooms in construction.

Asia Pacific

According to the statement published on STR.com, in March of this year there were 482,689 rooms in construction in the Asia Pacific region (+4.3%), with 147,854 rooms in final planning (-19.3%), 315,956 rooms in planning (+16.9%) and 946,499 rooms in total under contract (+3.3%), and, among countries in the region, China has the most rooms in construction (301,879), followed by Vietnam (32,804).

Middle East And Africa

According to the statement published on STR.com, in March of this year there were 126,860 rooms in construction in the Middle East and Africa (-10.6%), with 37,830 rooms in final planning (-17.2%), 69,398 rooms in planning (+29.6%) and 234,088 rooms in total under contract (-2.9%), and Saudi Arabia (38,181) and United Arab Emirates (30,367) lead in construction activity.

Americas

According to the statement published on STR.com, in March of this year there were 207,018 rooms in construction in the Americas, (-14.0%), 209,353 rooms in final planning (-17.7%), 346,277 rooms (+30.3%) in planning and 762,648 rooms in total under contract (+0.3%), and the US holds the majority of rooms in construction in the region, with Mexico (14,317) and Brazil (7,080) having the highest number of rooms in construction in the region after the US.
