Weak Sterling Results In High Occupancy Rates At Tullyglass Hotel

The devaluation of sterling has led to occupancy rates doubling at the Tullyglass House Hotel in the Co, Antrim town of Ballymena over the course of fifteen months, resulting in upwards of £4.6 million in turnover at the venue during the period.

The Belfast Telegraph reports that the latest accounts released for the hotel, which announced plans for a £5 million refurbishment earlier this year, indicate that it accumulated more than £380,000 in pre-tax profits between November 2015 and February 2017.

Commenting on the accounts, Tullyglass managing director Gus McConville said, "We've had a really good year and occupancy now sits at around 98%. They say Belfast is the gateway to the north coast, but in reality Ballymena has a much more central location in the north for tourists and is just 20 minutes from Belfast International Airport."

McConville also cited nearby filming locations for Game of Thrones and new business developments in the area as contributors to the rise in occupancy rates at the hotel.
