Ireland's First Poitín Bar To Launch In Dublin Next Month

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the decriminalisation of Irish Poitín, Ireland’s first fully dedicated poitín pop-up bar will be launched in conjunction with Irish poitín brand, Bán Poitín, for a six week residency in Dublin at an as-yet-undisclosed location in late October.

Commenting on the upcoming pop-up venue, dubbed "16-61", founder of the Irish-made, London-based Bán Poitín Dave Mulligan, said: "Poitín has been on the rise for over five years now, we can’t believe nobody has done anything in Ireland like this before. We have seen specialist gin bars popping up all over London and the UK, it makes sense to support a revival of your national spirit. This is what Bán has been about from the get-go."

16-61 is expected to feature master classes, guest bartenders from Ireland and overseas, exclusive spirits, stouts and porters, and a list of poitín cocktails presented by Bán Poitín and an array of other Irish distillers.

The bar will begin operations with a press night set to coincide with this year’s Irish Whiskey Awards on Thursday October 19 before the bar's location is revealed to the public on October 20. Opening hours will be from 5pm to late from Thursday to Sunday every week until the end of its six week run on November 26. While spaces will be reserved for walk-ins, with a maximum capacity of 35, booking is strongly advised.
