Barge Inn Buys Time

The operator of The Barge Inn, a landmark pub once owned by former billionaire Sean Quinn, has got a temporary injunction preventing its removal. The Barge Inn Ltd, a company owned by publican Philip Hickey, was granted the injunction until May 10 against Quinn Hospitality Ireland Operations Three Ltd, a company controlled by IBRC, formerly Anglo Irish Bank. A dispute is understood to have arisen between both sides over a proposed rent increase. The Barge, which is situated on the banks of the Grand Canal in south Dublin, is a popular summer watering hole for workers in the local area. IBRC took over ownership of The Barge and a portfolio of other pubs on foot of debts owed by Quinn. The pubs are owned on the bank's behalf by a firm called Quinn International Property Management (QIPM).
