Irish Distillers Launch 'Cork Whiskey Way'

Irish Distillers today launched Cork’s first ‘Whiskey Way’ trail; an experience of two of Cork’s greatest treasures, Irish whiskeys and its pubs. The Cork Whiskey Way is a dedicated, self-guided whiskey trail set in the heart of Cork city.

The guide is available as a free iPhone app, or users can avail of a printed map from various pubs, tourist centres, and the Old Jameson Distillery, Midleton. The exciting trail will bring users on a guide of Cork’s historical city and features ten handpicked pubs, renowned for their welcoming bartenders who have a passion for Irish whiskey and their great atmosphere.

Within each pub, users should look out for the Cork Whiskey Way framed picture, and scan the QR code within it. Once four of the codes within the ten destinations have been scanned, users will receive a certificate of completion signed by Brian Nation, Master Distiller, along with a complimentary pass to the Jameson Experience Visitor’s Centre in Midleton. Here, visitors will discover the true heart of Irish whiskey, where Jameson, Powers and Midleton Very Rare to name but a few, are distilled to this day. According to Pat Magee, Managing Director of Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard, the Cork Whiskey Way is an exciting new venture for the company which aims to further promote the strong link between Irish Distillers, and Cork; the home of Irish whiskey. “The Cork Whiskey Way will showcase the integral role that the city of Cork plays in the craft and heritage of distilling and whiskey making. Many are aware of the strong local brewing history here, but it is actually distilleries that made Cork famous in the 1800s and 1900s. Irish Distillers has been making whiskeys in Cork since 1966 and we are proud of the skill and craftsmanship that takes place at the Midleton Distillery, and want our publicans and consumers to share in this history and pride."

The ten bars of the Whiskey Way are: Canty’s, Counihan’s, Electric, Le Chateau, SoHo Bar, The Mutton Lane Inn, The Oliver Plunkett, The Oval, The Roundy and The Woodford.
