JD Wetherspoon Buys Pub In Blackrock

UK pub operator JD Wetherspoon will be purchasing the Tonic Bar in Blackrock, Co. Dublin for around €1.5 million. This will be JD Wetherspoon's first Irish-based pub and is expected to reopen in April 2014.

The business chain have nine pubs in Northern Ireland and will be purchasing the 40 Foot in Dún Laoghaire. The founder and chairman of the company, Tim Martin, says they intend to expand in Ireland over the next few years.

"Our aim is to invest up to €50 million in the Republic of Ireland over the next five to ten years, opening between 10 and 20 pubs," he told the Irish Times.
